Freescale East Kilbride have a vacancy for an experienced engineer in the Product Analysis laboratory.

The Product Analysis laboratory has 3 main functions:

- Analysis of first silicon (first prototypes) of new advanced microcontrollers, presently S12X devices down to 0.18um in feature size.

- Analysis of devices manufactured in the EKB wafer fab in order to isolate issues impacting production yield.

- Analysis of returned customer parts, from EKB and TLS business unit, to determine the root cause of failure.

The main products analysed are advanced microcontrollers used in the automotive markets with major customers in North America, Europe and Japan.
Analysis techniques will involve a range of approaches including: rigourous analysis of the device on evaluation boards (EVBs), detailed in-circuit probing to examine signal behaviour & deprocessing of the packaged device in order to identify the cause of failure. In addition many advanced tools such as Focused Ion Beam (FIB), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Laser Induced Electrical Stimulation tools (e.g. OBIRCH) are used in the investigation, isolation and identification of problems. The post also calls for liason with a number of other groups within Freescale, such as design engineering, product engineering and device engineering.

The successful candidate should have a good technical knowledge of digital and analogue circuit fundamentals as well as an understanding of the underlying semiconductor device physics and behaviour. Specific experience of microcontrollers and their operation would be an advantage. Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, good communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to produce quality results in a timely fashion are also essential attributes.
